TOLEDO, OHIO \u2013 What\u2019s a ghost\u2019s favorite candy? BOO-ble gum!<\/p>\n

One area dentist is redefining the phrase \u201cput your money where your mouth is.\u201d This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Jon Frankel Dentistry\u2019s Talmadge Road and Keystone Drive locations and receive $1.00 per pound. Dr Frankel is leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and toothbrushes in exchange for cavity-provoking candy.<\/p>\n

\u201cDitch the candy, that\u2019s what we\u2019re saying. Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets altogether would really give your teeth a healthy boost,\u201d says Dr. Jon Frankel. \u201cKids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well.<\/p>\n

Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, as well as hurting children\u2019s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.<\/p>\n

Candy will be collected at Jon Frankel Dentistry at 5012 Talmadge Road, Toledo, Ohio the day after Halloween, Tuesday, November 1st from 3:00 p.m. until 7 p.m. and 4359 Keystone Drive, Maumee, Ohio 43537 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The candy must be unopened. It will then be shipped to Toledo Area Troops overseas.<\/p>\n
