Since I have become a patient of Dr. Frankel (going on 7 years), I have had NO problems with my teeth! My previous dentist always seemed to find something “wrong”, and I needed an overlay, or a bridge, or SOMETHING! I am beyond satisfied with all the staff at this practice and I highly recommend becoming a patient here.

Would just like to let you know how impressive your office is on cleanliness. From the waiting area to the dental chair all looks so nice. Brittney always does a great job cleaning my teeth but for some reason on this particular visit I happened to notice how professional everything looked. Keep up the good work – we appreciate it!!

From the minute I walked in the door I was greeted with a genuine happy smile. Brittney also called me back for my cleaning with a big smile. Check out staff very nice and friendly. So nice to go to a workplace where people smile. Also “love” the quick whitening Brittney did on my teeth. The minimal cost is worth the time I save doing it on my own and treatment does a better job than my home whitening.

I moved to the area from S.C and I needed to find a dentist and chose to go to Dr. Frankel. Upon arriving it was obvious there is team concept strategy within the office. Everyone was pleasant, upbeat and willing. They all made me feel as though they had been waiting specifically for me. Julia did my cleaning and she was very gentle, kind and thoughtful. Dr. Frankel was very nice and seemed genuinely concerned about my overall dental care. This was my first visit however I do believe I’ve found my dentist and that makes me smile.

  3. Teen Teeth

Your oral health care needs change as you get older. When children become teenagers, they face different issues than when they were younger. By the teenage years, a teen has lost all of his/her “baby” teeth and the adult teeth have made their stay.

In addition to going through puberty, teens also face some oral health changes:

    1) Braces – everyone wants a smile that is full of straight teeth. Braces may be a good option for teens to explore.

    2) Bothersome wisdom teeth – these teeth or “third molars” can be an issue as teens get older. They may cause pain and need to be removed.

    3) Bad Breath – changes in your oral health routine may make a difference – including brushing with an electric toothbrush, flossing daily and adding a mouth wash. Tonsils made need to be checked as well.

The best advice you can give your teen is to adhere to a strong oral health routine and to make sure they attend their regular cleanings. Teenage years are one to smile and laugh a lot, so teens should never feel embarrassed or ashamed of their teeth. Our office is here to discuss all of your options, so you can be proud of your smile.

    Dental Family

12 Reasons to See a Dentist
Patients schedule appointments for a variety of reasons including anything from a routine hygiene cleaning to a toothache. It’s important to listen to your body and never ignore or put off any signs that something is not right in your mouth. Put your health first and make the appointment – the sooner a problem is detected the better and it could save you in the long run.

    Dental Home

Here are 12 reasons you need to see a dentist:

    1) You experience pain or swelling in mouth, face or neck
    2) You have inflamed gums or a history of gum disease
    3) You are not proud of your smile
    4) Your dental history includes fillings, crowns, bridges – this work needs to be monitored.
    5) You have ongoing medical issues such as diabetes, eating disorders, cardiovascular disease or HIV positive.
    6) You are pregnant – it is safe to still go to the dentist.
    7) You have difficulty eating and chewing and avoid eating certain foods.
    8) You suffer from dry mouth
    9) You use tobacco of any form
    10) You experience jaw pain
    11) You notice mouth sores or spots or have been diagnosed with oral cancer.
    12) Your teeth are healthy – it’s important to maintain your twice a year checkups and hygiene cleanings.

  5. Children’s Dental Health Month

    Children First
Celebrate Children’s Dental Health Month with a New Change

    Regularly Scheduled Dental Visits

February is Children’s Dental Health month. In honor of this topic, we encourage parent’s and caregivers to choose one healthy habit for their children to focus on changing. Parent’s and caregivers are the best examples for their children.
Here are some examples of healthy habits to focus on this month:

    Parents Make the Difference

    1) Think before you drink….make sure you are serving water or milk as a beverage.
    2) Swap a sugary, processed snack for fruit, vegetables or cheese.
    3) Brush your teeth together – make this a family event and teach your children how to correctly care for their teeth
    4) Floss your teeth together – flossing is such a dreaded part of the oral hygiene routine. Enforce that brushing and flossing go hand-in-hand! Create a sticker chart to keep track and to set a reminder!
    5) Educate them on what the dentist and his team do. Teach them the proper language used at the dentist. Here is a handy chart to get started!

  7. Warm Smiles Inside

Cleanings – Make this First on your 2018 List

It’s the new year! Happy 2018! Is getting a dental hygiene cleaning on your list of resolutions? Why do people procrastinate on scheduling cleanings? Cleanings are one of the best things you can do to stay healthy! If you have dental insurance benefits, most policies cover your hygiene cleanings  — so it’s time for you to get your teeth cleaned! Prevention is less expensive than extensive dental work.

Frankel Dentistry sees patients every 3, 4, or 6 months. Patients may start at four visits per year and graduate to twice a year. Folks with health complications such as diabetes find more frequent visits very helpful. Some patients keep their smile in-check by maintaining their 3 month re-care, others do well visiting twice a year.

Here are a few of the Benefits of Getting Routine Hygiene Cleanings:

    1) Professional cleanings remove plaque and calicified build-up.

    2) Less plaque =  less cavities

    3) Less plaque = lower risk of gum disease

    4) Regular cleanings help lower your risk of some diseases such as heart disease – early signs of these diseases can be detected in your mouth.

    5) Less plaque = lower risk for needing extensive dental treatment such as a root canal, filling or crown, which saves you money

    6) Frequent visits include instructions to keep your at-home cleanings fine tuned.

It’s still important to take care of your mouth at home and maintain strong oral health habits. Schedule a professional cleaning and oral exam.  If you would like Frankel Dentistry’s Insurance Benefit Coordinator will check with your insurance to see what is covered.

Put your health first this year and make the appointment!

  8. Dentistry Discovers Immediate Gratification

    Whiter Teeth

    Four Shades in Four Minutes

It almost sounded too good to be true. The marriage of the tooth cleaning jiggle of an ultrasonic toothbrush and a unique whitening solution. Micro-exploding, speed defying hydrogen peroxide quickly invading teeth and and leaving them sparkling white. Amazing!

    Jon Frankel, DDS

Four shades in four minutes? Toledo dentist, Jon Frankel had to check it out. Ever since his father began practicing dentistry in 1946, the latest in technology and dental advances has been a hallmark of Frankel Dentistry. The dentists, hygienists, assistants and staff enjoyed a live uPhoria webinar. Immediately inundated with volunteers, Frankel held a drawing for the uPhoria Ultrasonic Teeth Whitening test procedure.

    uPhoria Winner Dr. Gemma Hill

The winner was Dr. Gemma Hill. Her appointment was scheduled within minutes. Chair time start to finish, a brief 20 minutes.

Checking the Tooth Color or Shade

    uPhoria 4 minute Teeth Whitening

    uPhoria Teeth Whitening Procedure

“My gums were tingly, but I had no tooth sensitivity”, shared Dr. Hill. A week later, her smile is a solid 4 shades lighter and her gums feel great. Dr. Hill plans to offer the procedure to busy patients before a crown procedure. Crowns are designed to match teeth but once placed cannot be whitened.

uPhoria not only Whitens Teeth.                They Stay White.

uPhoria Ultrasonic Teeth Whitening is ideal for the patient with light to moderate discoloration. “The procedure is an easy addition to a 6 month recare visit, if the office is given adequate notice”, adds Zach, senior scheduling coordinator.

uPhoria Ultrasonic Teeth Whitening has found a permanent home in this midwestern town. One thing for sure, everyone at Frankel Dentistry is smiling!

  9. Dr. Jon Frankel & Dr. Amber Puhl

The baseball season has ended. The Toledo Mudhens won their last game. There are two Toledo dentists committed to keeping your childrens’ smiles healthy season through season. As we switch out summer sports bags for book bags, it’s a great time to check out oral health habits.

Toledo Dentists’ Keep Parents Up on Fall Dental Care

Summer is over and school is back in session! Back to school means getting organized and ready to start a fresh year! There will be a lot of knowledge to gain and activities to keep busy. Your student’s health should be at the top of the list – this should include physical, mental and dental health.

Dr. Frankel and Dr. Puhl’s A-B-C’s for Back to School

    A. An Apple a Day….apples are wonderful food for your teeth and your body. (Dr. Frankel eats an organic apple every day!) Fill up on nutritious snacks at school and after school.

    B. Brush! Staying on a strict brushing schedule is very important to incorporate with your child’s school routine – aim to brush after breakfast and before bedtime.

    C. Cavity-free is the way to be! Make sure your child is up-to-date on dental exams not just for school records, but for their health.

It’s important to teach children how to care for their teeth and what healthy teeth mean for their body. Has your tiny tot been to the dentist yet? Now is the time to get that appointment scheduled.

What’s your philosophy for practicing medicine/healing?
I continue to build on the foundation set by my father, Sheldon Frankel by setting the standard for dental care.
How did you select your specialty?
My father, uncle and cousins are general dentists. It may be genetic. I love what I do.
What medical advancement have made, or will make, the biggest impact in your field?
There are so many in the 71 years Frankel Dentistry has been caring for Toledo area patients. I think same day dental crowns, dental implants and porcelain veneers are incredible advances in dentistry.
What do you wish your patients would do differently?
Brush and floss twice daily and come for regular dental visits. Then we can take care of small issues before they become big problems. Also, call in advance to reschedule.
When you’re the patient, what’s the most important thing you look for in another health care provider?
I need a time-conscious provider. My patients don’t wait. I respect their time.
What summer fruits and vegetables are you most excited for?
Great question, I eat apples year round but I enjoy grapes in the summer. My Dad used to grow grapes.
How do you deal with stress?
I work out and practice yoga.
Never, ever… Skip a dental appointment. A healthy mouth promotes a healthy body.
Laughter is medicine. What’s your favorite health care provider joke?
It is an old standard but my Dad used to say, “Only floss the teeth you want to keep.”
What’s the most rewarding thing you’ve ever heard from a patient?
I often hear a patient say they wish they had completed their treatment sooner or they can smile for the first time. It just doesn’t get better than that.
The world would be a better place if…
We treated each other like family.
What life lesson did you learn from your parents?
Never boast or complain. Do your best.
No matter how hard I try, I just can’t get the knack of…
    Car repair.
    When do you feel invincible?
When I have the love of my family.
