Local Bowling Green Student wins $1000
Dr. Frankel Broadcasting Scholarship to be trained by Carlos Diaz
Bowling Green State University Broadcasting major, Lauren Downey (20), recently received the $1000 Dr. Frankel Broadcasting Scholarship to attend Carlos Diaz Broadcasting Consulting in Indianapolis, Indiana. Founded by Carlos Diaz and Paul Mpistolarides, this school focuses on helping future broadcasters understand the field and build valuable skills that will be utilized in the future.
In a letter to Dr. Jon Frankel and his wife, Niki, Lauren thanked the Frankel family for their generosity saying, “your contribution of this scholarship is held with the utmost respect and will be used to the best of my ability.” Since beginning the program, Lauren has already had the opportunity to shoot stand-ups in some of at some of the most well-known Indianapolis landmarks and has also interviewed a prominent owner and former driver in the Indy Car Racing League. She believes that the “CDBC is getting me several steps closer to becoming the sports broadcaster I want to be, and this scholarship is a huge reason why I am able to attend.”
Dr. Frankel and Niki are thrilled that Lauren is the inaugural recipient of the scholarship. “Niki and I realize that Carlos Diaz Broadcasting Consulting is more than about simply teaching the art of broadcasting,” said Dr. Frankel. “It’s about teaching young people how to truly utilize the inner confidence that they will need to succeed in all aspects of their life. We applaud Carlos and Paul, who are adding to their already busy schedules by giving back and assisting young people in realizing their dreams,” Dr. Frankel continued.
According to Paul Mpistolarides, “Lauren has tons of potential. She has a vast knowledge of auto racing, which is also where I started my career. If she continues on the same ‘track,’ she will have no problem working in her field of choice for years to come.”
“Lauren’s dedication is second to none,” said Carlos Diaz. “She gets it. Her willingness to learn and the fact that she gets along with everybody are two of the biggest reasons for her immediate success at CDBC. I have no doubt she will be working as a NASCAR television personality one day.”
