  1. Creating the best dental care experience just keeps getting better! At Frankel Dentistry one of the reasons we love where we work is because we love who we work with! Over the past few months we’ve had so many new, passionate, friendly faces join our team to help us create the best dental care experience for all our Northwest Ohio families! We are so excited to introduce you to our two newest doctors, both joining us from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. Please help us welcome, Dr. Abdullah Elsalti and Dr. Mohamad Siblini!

Dr. Abdullah Elsalti was born in Tuscon, Arizona, however he spent his formative years in Damascus, Syria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Raised by supportive parents, Dr. Elsalti credits them for instilling in him the values of hard work, kindness, and dedication. As a child he watched his parents and siblings struggle with dental problems which fueled his determination to make a difference in other’s lives. After completing his high school education, Dr. Elsalti pursued his dream of becoming a dentist. He graduated from Damascus University School of Dental Medicine in 2013.

Driven by a desire to enhance his skills and provide comprehensive dental care, Dr. Elsalti embarked on a new journey by moving back to the United States. Prior to being accepted to a US dental program, Dr. Elsalti worked as a dental assistant. He enrolled at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated in May 2023. He has over a decade of expertise in the dental field! Always Better, Dr. Elsalti is passionate about serving others and finds immense joy in participating in dental missions which give back to those less forunate. One of his favorite missions so far being “Give Kids a Smile”.

Outside of dentistry, Dr. Elsalti enjoys watching NBA basketball, some of his favorites being Stephen Curry and Nikola Jokic. He also loves soccer, traveling, and music! You can always find him singing and humming throughout the day. Make sure you ask him his current favorite song while you’re in office!

While we have Dr. Elsalti joining our Toledo practice, we have Dr. Mohamad Siblini joining our Maumee team!

Dr. Mohamad Siblini. Born in Lebanon, Dr. Siblini spent most of his years in Saudi Arabia before embarking on an exciting journey that led him to the United States. His diverse background and experiences have shaped him into the dedicated healthcare professional he is today!

After earning his dental degree, BDS, in Saudi Arabia in 2013, Dr. Siblini was admitted into the Prosthodontic residency program, where he honed his skills and expertise. Seeking further growth and opportunities, he moved to the United States in late 2016 and joined a dental implant clinic in Michigan as a Prosthodontist/Surgical assistant. During this time, he gained invaluable experience in full mouth rehabilitation while also completing his dental boards.

In 2020, Dr. Siblini was admitted into the prestigious International Dentist program at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston. There, he successfully completed his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, further enhancing his knowledge and clinical proficiency.

Outside of the office, Dr. Siblini finds joy in various hobbies. He has achieved a 3rd-degree black belt in Karate and has actively trained and mentored younger students, fostering leadership qualities and discipline. He also enjoys swimming and soccer, which keep him active and balanced in his personal life!

Both Dr. Mohamad Siblini and Dr. Abdullah Elsalti bring a remarkable level of dedication, passion, and kindness to our dental family! Please help us welcome these two! We can’t wait to Change Lives a Smile at a Time with you!

  2. Dental Hygienists are dental healthcare providers! The scope of practice may  vary from state to state. At Frankel Dentistry, our patients tell us we have the  best dental hygienists and we agree.

In Ohio, they perform a wide range of services, such as:

Examining teeth and gums to identify problems, which may include cavities,  gum disease, or oral cancer.

Cleaning teeth and gums. Using specific dental instruments and tools, they  remove plaque, tartar, and stains, which helps prevent tooth decay and gum  disease.

Taking radiographs. Dental hygienists may take x-rays of teeth and jaws to  reveal issues not visible in an oral exam.

Instructing and explaining toothbrushing and flossing, diet, and the use of  fluoride. Oral health education may include diseases of the teeth, gums, and  mouth.

Local anesthesia and nitrous oxide may be administered by dental hygienists  under the supervision of a licensed dentist.

Applying topical fluoride to strengthen and remineralize enamel is another  dental hygienist function.

Dental hygienists are invaluable members of the dental health team. Your  smile will thank you if you see your dental hygienist once every 3 to 6  months.

  3. Teeth seem to be getting whiter and whiter. A beautiful bright smile is attractive. There are several at home teeth whitening products. We asked our dental professionals and patients. These are a few of their favorites.

    Brighter Smiles with Teeth Whitening!

Brighten your smile with teeth whitening!

Both the patients and the dental professionals stressed seeing your dentist first. Dental diseases such as swollen bleeding gums and decay need to be addressed before whitening teeth.

The best option according to those we asked is custom whitening trays. They fit well and therefore the gel is neatly placed around the teeth. Some dental offices offer whitening for life. Once the initial trays are made and tubes of whitening gel purchased patients receive an additional tube of whitening at each dental hygiene visit.

Another favorite was Crest 3D Whitestrips. They are not custom-made but are convenient and easily accessible.

Opalescence Go is offered at many dental practices as a complimentary gift for new patients after they have completed necessary treatment. Once again, it is not a custom fit but comes in different strengths and is designed to be used 10-15 days for maximum results.

Demonstration and steps regarding how to use Opalescence Go whitening.

Colgate Optic Toothpaste and Opalescence Whitening toothpaste come up as preferred whitening toothpastes.

It is important to note that while these products can be effective, it is essential to consult with a dentist before starting any whitening treatment.

  4. “Education is what has allowed us to touch the lives of so many!” While always seeking to serve others, the importance of education cannot be overstated. With an Always Better approach Frankel Dentistry partnered with Owens Community College with aims to provide better education, opportunity, and bridge the gap between education and the industry. The Frankel Dental Lab, located in Toledo, Ohio, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides students with hands-on experience in the field of dentistry. The lab is an excellent example of how two institutions with similar missions can come together to create something truly remarkable.

  5. March is Women’s History Month and last Wednesday Frankel Dentistry celebrated International Women’s Day! Did you know over 90% of dental team members are female. Dentistry and support is a female dominated field.

Dentistry would not be what it is today without the thousands of women who have dedicated their lives to oral health care.

Empower a woman, empower a community – Celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of women worldwide on International Women’s Day.💙

Let’s learn more about the importance of women in dentistry!

Dental hygiene and assisting are important fields in the dental industry, with the role of women in these fields growing significantly in recent years. Women have been taking on more roles in dentistry and, as a result, are making significant contributions to the field. Among these roles, the positions of hygienists and EFDAs (Expanded Function Dental Assistants) stand out for their crucial contributions to dental care.

    Women in Dental Hygiene

Dental hygiene is a critical aspect of dental care, as it helps prevent and manage oral health problems. Dental hygienists work in dental offices, clinics, and hospitals, and are responsible for performing dental cleanings, oral exams, and educating patients about proper oral hygiene practices. Women make up a significant portion of the dental hygiene workforce, with the American Dental Hygienists’ Association reporting that 98.4% of all dental hygienists in the United States are women.

    Women in EFDAs

Expanded Function Dental Assistants, or EFDAs, work closely with dentists to provide essential dental care to patients. EFDAs are responsible for a variety of tasks, including placing and removing dental fillings, taking x-rays, and assisting with dental surgeries. Like dental hygiene, EFDAs play an essential role in the provision of dental care. Women make up a significant portion of the EFDA workforce as well, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting that 95.6% of all dental assistants are women.

Last week we also celebrated Dental Assistant’s Appreciation Week! How cute is our team?

Dental assistants celebrating dentistry as a team!

    We love our Dental Assistants!

The Importance of Women in Dentistry

Women have always played an important role in the dental industry, but their contributions have become increasingly significant in recent years. The reasons for this include increasing numbers of women entering the dental field and a growing awareness of the importance of oral health. Women have proven to be highly skilled and knowledgeable dental professionals, bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the field.

Women have made significant contributions to the dental industry as dental hygienists and EFDAs.  The growing numbers of women in these roles is a positive sign for the future of dental care and will undoubtedly continue to benefit patients for years to come. At Frankel Dentistry we are grateful for the women who have helped us build our practice and provide our Toledo and Maumee communities with excellent patient care.

  6. Taking care of your pet’s oral health is an important part of their overall well-being. A healthy mouth, promotes a healthy body! Just like humans, pets can suffer from a variety of dental issues, including plaque, tartar, and periodontal disease, if their oral health isn’t properly maintained.

First, let’s talk about why pet oral health is so important. Not only can poor oral health lead to bad breath, but it can also create a number of other problems for your pet. For instance, bacteria can easily enter the bloodstream through the gums and cause infections in other organs. This can lead to a variety of illnesses and can even be life-threatening. That’s why it’s so important to practice good oral hygiene for your pet.

Let’s talk about how to keep your pet’s mouth clean and healthy. One of the best ways to do this is by brushing your pet’s teeth regularly. You can purchase special pet toothbrushes and toothpaste at most pet stores. It’s also important to feed your pet a healthy, balanced diet and give them plenty of chew toys. This will help remove plaque and prevent tartar buildup.

Finally, it’s also important to take your pet to the vet for regular checkups. While Frankel Dentistry does not care for animals, your vet can check your pet’s teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy and can provide advice on the best way to maintain your pet’s oral hygiene! Let’s help your best friend have a lifetime of healthy, happy smiles!

We’ve said it time and time again but a healthy mouth promotes a healthy body! The same goes for the pets you love! Good oral hygiene is an important part of your pet’s overall health and well-being.

  7. January 24th was National Compliment Day, a day dedicated to spreading positivity and kindness through the power of compliments. At Frankel Dentistry one of our core values is G.E.T. or Gratitude, Encouragement, and Trust. Every morning at the start of our day we read “BRAVOS”. These are compliments for outstanding  performance written by co-workers. At Frankel Dentistry everyday is Compliment Day!

A compliment is a simple yet powerful way to brighten someone’s day and lift their spirits. Whether it’s a compliment on someone’s appearance, their work, or their personality, it can make a big difference in how they feel.

In honor of this special day, let’s take a moment to think about the people in our lives who could use a compliment. It could be a family member, a friend, a coworker, or even a stranger.

Here are a few ideas for compliments that you can give today:

    • “I love your smile, it lights up the room.”
    • “You’re such a hard worker, it’s inspiring to see.”
    • “You have a great sense of style, I love your outfit today.”
    • “You’re an excellent listener, I always feel heard when I talk to you.”

Remember, a compliment doesn’t have to be big or elaborate to make an impact. A simple “you look great today” or “I appreciate you” can go a long way.

So, let’s spread some love and positivity today and every day. Compliment someone today and make their day a little bit brighter.

At Frankel Dentistry everyday is Compliment Day!

  8. Wearing down your smile by grinding your teeth throughout the night? Unbearable migraines as a result from uncontrollable clenching?
Our Maumee office, Frankel and Puhl Dentistry could have a solution for you! Dr. Amber Puhl, DDS is now administering Botox to help treat TMJ and bruxism.

Not sure what TMJ is? Let us break it down for you.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. You have one joint on each side of your jaw. TMJ disorders, a type of temporomandibular disorder or TMD, can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that control jaw movement. Over 80% of patients suffer from some sort of TMJ disorder.
Woman suffering from jaw pain and aches from TMJ.

    What causes TMJ?

TMJ can be the result of a number of factors. Arthritis, jaw injury, teeth clenching and/or grinding all contribute to TMJ development. During early signs of teeth grinding and clenching we recommend visiting your dentist regarding night guards to protect your enamel and your jaw.

Signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders may include:

    • Pain or tenderness of your jaw
    • Pain in one or both of the temporomandibular joints
    • Aching pain in and around your ear
    • Difficulty chewing or pain while chewing
    • Aching facial pain
    • Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth

    Botox Can Help!

You have undoubtedly heard of Botox injections used to enhance lips, cheeks, or to smooth out wrinkles across the forehead or around the eyes. But you may not be familiar with Botox treatment for TMJ. When the Botox is injected into the temporalis and masseter muscles, it limits muscle function and relieves facial pain, headaches, and swelling associated with TMJ.

Always Better! Frankel and Puhl Dentistry is adding Botox as a treatment option for patients who suffer from TMJ disorders. Continuing to learn and grow to best serve our patients is very important to us. After training and continued education with the American Academy of Facial Esthetics,  our very own Dr. Amber Puhl, DDS will be offering botox treatment!

Struggling with tension headaches and jaw pain from TMJ? Botox could be your answer. Visit us online or call today to schedule an appointment.
