  1. Candy Collectors

    Halloween Candy Buyback

We all know that children may get money from the tooth fairy, but did you know that children can receive candy from a dentist? That’s right! During the month of November, kids trade in their Halloween candy for cash during our Annual Candy Buyback. Frankel Dentistry has been offering this opportunity for over ten years. Dr. Frankel wants to remind kids that while Halloween is a fun holiday, eating too much sugar can lead to cavities and unhealthy habits. Candy, as well as hurting children’s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. Our Annual Candy Buyback is an opportunity not only to educate young children on the importance of oral health, but it is a way to promote the significance of giving back and show what power a community has.

Giving Hard Earned Candy to Local Toledo Area Troops

Every year, Dr. Frankel donates all the treats that have been collected to a local group to be sent to Toledo troops serving overseas. This year, we collected over a ton of candy for our troops! This large donation would not be possible without the help of our wonderful community. Frankel Dentistry would like to say a big thank you to the residents of Elmore, Ohio who brought in over 20 pounds of candy and collected no money. Their generosity reflects our shared value to serve all. We are grateful to all those have donated candy to our Halloween Candy buyback. It is hard to believe that this has been our annual event for over 10 years. That’s a lot of sweet community support!

Children Write Notes and Create Cards for our Troops

We would also like to highlight a few of our wonderful children who not only brought in 10 pounds of candy but added a personal touch to their donation. A young boy wrote a letter to be sent to the troops with his large donation. In the letter, the gentleman sends thanks to the troops with his kind words and sweet treats. It reads, “Two Twix for both of your fighting arms, a big Sour Patch Kids for your power, Sweet Tarts for your boldness, and a Reeses Cup for your sweetness.” Talk about a sweet kid.

These Children are Changing Lives a Smile at a Time.

Next year if you are in the Toledo, Ohio area and have excess Halloween Candy. Drs. Frankel and Puhl have a sweet solution. Donate your candy!

  2. Frankel Dentistry has two locations, Toledo and Maumee employing close to 90 dental professionals. If you ask them, they will tell you they wouldn’t work anywhere else. How is that possible?

The clues are obvious from the moment you contact either location. There are systems in place that make serving the community through dentistry efficient and convenient. Once at one of the offices, it is clear, these dental professionals love what they do and know what they are doing.

Frankel Dentistry has defined the best dental experience. They live it.

How is it possible they are always better? Continued training and constant communication through the EOS business model L10 meetings eliminate big problems by addressing small issues. Recently the entire group read What the Heck is EOS?  They made it into a book club activity. Chapters were reviewed and discussed together.

It makes sense that the annual State of the Business meeting was filled with laughter. It was fun. Reviewing where they have been, reiterating where they are and forecasting where they are going couldn’t have been a better experience.

Frankel Dentistry is changing lives a smile at a time for patients and each other.

  3. New Addition for 73 Year Old

New Englander, Dr. Rebecca Gofman has left the Constitution State for our Midwest Buckeye State! We are thrilled she did. Frankel Dentistry and Frankel and Puhl Dentistry welcome her as a new associate to their Maumee location.

  4. Dr. Jonathan Frankel in celebration of National Tooth Fairy Day is offering some important dental hints. Children with good oral hygiene habits are more likely to enjoy a lifetime of dental health.

National Tooth Fairy day: February 28th is National Tooth Fairy Day and just like the magical fairy, Jon Frankel knows how important it is to educate children on good dental hygiene care. Here are some tips on how to make brushing fun for kids:

    1. Put on some music – Play your kid’s favorite song while they are brushing their teeth. They will love the music and their teeth will be happy to be clean.

    2. Play a game – Sometimes playing a game like “Simon Says” while brushing makes it more fun for children of all ages and helps them learn proper brushing and flossing techniques.

    3. Positive reinforcement – Reward your children for good dental habits. Positive reinforcement urges kids to continue to develop good behaviors. But, be careful; don’t reward them with foods that will damage their teeth, like too much juice or sugar.

    4. Let them choose – Let your child pick out his or her own toothbrush and toothpaste by doing so, you will create excitement with your children about brushing their teeth. Just be sure that the new toothbrush is ADA approved.

  7. Teen Teeth

Your oral health care needs change as you get older. When children become teenagers, they face different issues than when they were younger. By the teenage years, a teen has lost all of his/her “baby” teeth and the adult teeth have made their stay.

In addition to going through puberty, teens also face some oral health changes:

    1) Braces – everyone wants a smile that is full of straight teeth. Braces may be a good option for teens to explore.

    2) Bothersome wisdom teeth – these teeth or “third molars” can be an issue as teens get older. They may cause pain and need to be removed.

    3) Bad Breath – changes in your oral health routine may make a difference – including brushing with an electric toothbrush, flossing daily and adding a mouth wash. Tonsils made need to be checked as well.

The best advice you can give your teen is to adhere to a strong oral health routine and to make sure they attend their regular cleanings. Teenage years are one to smile and laugh a lot, so teens should never feel embarrassed or ashamed of their teeth. Our office is here to discuss all of your options, so you can be proud of your smile.

    4) Exercise – healthy mouth, healthy body is our motto. Enjoy the sunshine (safely) and pick up a new habit like kayaking or hiking.

    5) Summer time can mean a change in schedule, but don’t forget to keep your oral hygiene schedule the same – if not make changes for the better!

  9. Keeping your child’s mouth healthy is crucial to their total body health. As parent’s and caregivers, we need to take them to the dentist for their required exams and cleanings, ensure they receive a balanced, healthy diet, encourage a healthy lifestyle and make sure their teeth are brushed twice daily and flossed at least once a day. Children don’t need to have all of their teeth to need to start flossing.

The flossing part seems to be forgotten about by most patients. Once teeth touch each other, they need to be flossed. Sometimes it can be the front teeth and sometimes it’s just the back molars. If you are unsure, ask your dental team!

Dr. Frankel shares 5 tips on how to keep flossing part of your child’s routine from the start:
    1) Floss every single night – PERIOD.
    2) Decorate your box of floss with stickers to get kids engaged
    3) Make a chart  or visual image to help children remember that brushing and flossing goes hand-in-hand.
    4) Have your child try to floss your teeth – play dentist!
    5) Watch a video on how to floss teeth – try YouTube!
