Had extreme pain from upper wisdom teeth, called the Toledo office, they got me in within a hour with no appointment, advanced notice, or emergency fee. Was a new patient, was seen by the staff within 30 mins of filling out my paperwork and they did the work I needed on the spot. Excellent communication and attention from the doctors and assistants. Absolutely no complaints. Would recommend to anyone needed a quick operation done, or for a comfortable routine experience.

The staff at this office is amazing! I never have to wait long, they are very clear and efficient and respect you. Other offices I have not had this experience and they talk down to you. At this location, the dental hygienists are SO NICE! The girl I had was so sweet, friendly, and enthusiastic. Her knowledge really showed. She gave very good advice for keeping healthy teeth. She went above and beyond to make sure I got whitening trays and was very quick but thorough with her cleaning and getting the doctor to see me. Thank you so much for always making this an enjoyable experience and for being so nice!! 🙂

I am grateful to the office for their understanding of my anxiety and that they help me through the visit. I have never actually looked forward (dreaded it actually) to going to the dentist, but now, it’s not so bad. Thank you!

What our patients are saying at Frankel Dentistry

We listen to our dental family. Often times they make our day with their comments. We thought we might share a few of the most recent observations.

I have been embarrassed by my smile for years and terrified to go to the dentist to do anything about it. It’s been a long journey and I still have a way to go, but the light is at the end of the tunnel. EVERY one of your staff members that I have met along the way have been beyond exceptional. Thank you to all of you! I left grinning from ear to ear today confident that I will finally have a smile I love!

    SK

I am an RN Geriatric Care Manager who personally takes her clients to all doctor’s appts including dental. One of my patient’s had Dr. Frankel as her dentist. Quite frankly, I have never been to such a caring, professional and high-tech dental office. I immediately switched my dental care to Dr. Frankel. I have also recommended him to several of my clients and they are now his patients as well.

    JK

I hate going to the dentist! I have not been to one in 30 yrs but Frankel dentistry has impressed me enough to return to them for the needed care. I still don’t like dentist visits but they make it a pleasant as possible experience thanks to the great staff.

    MM

They are very quick to get their patients in as needed. I had a broken tooth and Dr. Jon called me personally to get me in. Thank you very much for all your work and making me feel I matter.

Need a crown on a tooth and was pleasantly surprised to find they can prep the tooth and make the crown and place it all in the same visit. As always the staff was friendly and make you feel comfortable!

  3. Age is one factor that we can’t fight, although we really, really try. Truth be told, with all the other age defying tricks out there to help keep our youthful appearance, our smiles should not be one that we neglect.

Here are 5 areas where teeth can tell our age.Grand Lubell 024

    • Tooth decay. Yes, we warn our children and grandchildren about too much sugar and cavities. But just because we are older doesn’t mean we are immune to tooth decay. It is important to still brush for two minutes twice a day, floss daily, and visit Dr. Frankel for an exam every six months. A clean, healthy, white smile is also a nice trick to help keep you looking young and vibrant.

    Grand Lubell 008

    • Dry mouth. As we age and are prescribed different medications, we may start to experience dry mouth. Saliva is important part of protecting our teeth from decay, therefore, a dry mouth could be detrimental toward our oral health. Make sure you are staying properly hydrated, and sip and swish water whenever you notice your mouth may be dry.

    Grand Lubell 019

    • Too crowding. Pre-teens are not the only ones who experience tooth crowding. As we age our teeth move and shift. This may cause our teeth to crowd. Crowded teeth give bacteria many places to hide, where our tooth brushes and floss may not reach effectively. This breeding ground for bacteria may lead to tooth decay or worse, gum disease.

    SGL_2398 - Copy

    • Gum disease. Gingivitis and periodontal disease effect nearly half of American adults, according to the American Academy of Periodontology. Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease, which left untreated can affect the gum tissue and lead to tooth loss. The Frankel Dentistry team has a practicing Periodontist on staff, who will be able to treat patients with gum disease. Although gum disease cannot be reversed, there are plenty of ways to manage it, keeping your gums and teeth healthy.

    SGL_2326R

    • Oral Cancer. 43,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with oral cancer and nearly 8,000 will die from it (Oral Cancer Foundation). It is best to catch oral cancer in the earliest stages. While at Frankel Dentistry we will do a comprehensive exam, including an oral cancer screening, which will help ensure that your mouth is healthy and cancer free.

    Now aren’t those puppies cute?

Bread, born, and sold in Wauseon, Ohio, these adorable Labradoodles have a great connection to Frankel Dentistry and our hearts. Maggie Lauderdale always knew she wanted to breed dogs. 10 years ago, the opportunity finally broke through, and she never looked back. But, why labradoodles? Because they have some many strong qualities: They are trainable, intelligent, allergy friendly, non-shedding… the list goes on.

Maggie also is able to breed these adorable dogs to be anywhere from 15-70 lbs, to fit each and every persons needs and desires. And talk about a variety of colors. You can choose from chocolate, black, red and cream.

But, yes, there is more. Labradoodles make great therapy dogs. Maggie knows her worldly talent is to raise good dogs. And worldly she has become. Since starting Lauderdoodles, Maggie has placed puppies in most US States and internationally. That’s right you can find her puppies in Germany, Turkey, and Abudabi.

So, thinking about wanting a puppy? Maggie has a very thorough process. The first part is a brief interview, allowing her to know that these puppies are going to good, loving homes. Secondly, be prepared to pick the size and color of  your puppy and then wait. Once a puppy with your size. color. and gender preferences is born, it must then go through training when it is 12 weeks old. Training lasts 4 weeks and is a custom training program  specified for each individual family. The family also receives written training instructions and a CD with lifetime support.

If you have been thinking about adding a new, furry member to your family, contact Maggie at Lauderdooles.net. You can also find them on Facebook.

And as for Maggie, she is a wonderful, caring mother who even recently brought her adult son to Frankel Dentistry. But don’t hear it from us, watch this amazing testimonial from Maggie herself.

  5. Dr. Frankel often says “a healthy mouth promotes a healthy body.”

This statement rang true today when our manager of  dental hygiene, Debbie, came in to work during  her vacation because caring for our dental family is what we do best!

So the next time you see Debbie,

you will know just how much she really cares!

  6. Louise Kahle, Owner of Sassy Boomer GIrls

Louise Kahle, Owner of Sassy Boomer GIrls

23 years ago, Dr. Jon Frankel walked into the bank and walked out with a life long patient, Louise Kahle. Louise had just moved to the Toledo area and was working at the bank. She was in need of a new family dentist, and Dr. Frankel became that man. To this day, Louise is a dedicated Frankel patient and loves the fact that she even has Dr. Frankel’s personal cell phone number in case she ever has a dental emergency.

But Louise Kahle’s life took a new turn 12 years ago when she left her job in the corporate banking world and began helping women discover their “sass.” “Before starting Sassy Boomer Girls, I was always doing what I thought I had to do,” said Louise. “Now I am doing what I want to do and having so much more fun.”

A self-proclaimed “late bloomer,” Louise continues to discover more confidence daily. From this confidence, she developed sass. According to Louise, “Sassiness is a way of life. It can be found deep within one’s core. It eludes joy.” Once found, women must discover a way to express their sassiness to the world. One way is through personal style and not caring what anyone else thinks. “Heck, that is why I dyed my hair blue,” said Louise.

At Sassy Boomer Girls, Louise’s mission is to get women to “look as good as they feel.” She believes that every woman’s closet tells a lot about who she is and how she feels about herself. Therefore, Louise’s passion is to help women update their closets to display their confidence and inner sass. But why not hear it from Louise herself in this quick video.

Louise recently expanded her services to include color analysis, which allows women to know which colors flatter their skin tone and a small jewelry line. More information about Louise and her services or to book an appointment can be found on her website www.sassyboomergirls.com

  7. Beachbody, the company the brings you P90X, Insanity, and Turbo Kick, has a Frankel smile. That’s right, Angie Green, one of the trainers that you will see on many of the videos of Charlene Johnson brings her Frankel smile on set.

    Angie Green

Angie Green began her life as a fitness instructor while in college at BGSU. Upon graduating with her Masters, Angie accepted a position at the University of Toledo REC Center in 2001. However, it was when she decided that she wanted to work for Charlene Johnson that her life took an amazing new turn. After an extensive tryout, Angie was selected to be a member of the demo team for TurboKick.

After Angie had her son, she needed a new family dentist. That is when she joined the Frankel Dentistry family. “I love it at Frankel Dentistry,” she said. “I am very pleased with they treat my son and take care of all our needs.”

Angie, however, is beginning a new adventure. Being a Beachbody trainer, means there is a lot of traveling. In fact, not too long ago, Angie traveled to train the Toronto BlueJays in an Insanity workout.  Therefore, Angie is no longer working at UT. Today, her new adventure is focusing on her Beachbody career not only as a star of the videos but also a coach.

Check out Angie Green’s facebook page to learn more. https://www.facebook.com/AngieGreen11

And if you are thinking about becoming a certified Turbo Kick Instructor, join Angie on Sunday, October 12th in Toledo.

  8. 25 years of Tent City

1matters.org founder Ken Leslie displaying his "Frankel Smile"

1matters.org founder Ken Leslie displaying his “Frankel Smile”

Frankel Patient, Ken Leslie, began Tent City in 1990 after hearing a statistic: over 60% of homeless families have children. This statistic made him angry, and fueled a light of inspiration that would take his life into a completely new direction, which he has followed for the past 25 years, leading him to an invitation to the White House and meeting Katy Perry.

Tent City began as an event that allows area volunteers to “connect face to face with the homeless through music, coffee, and outreach programs from free haircuts to free medical exams,” says Tom Henry, a friend of Mr. Leslie.

In 1994 Ken started a retained executive search firm for the high tech industry. This allows him to add philanthropy to support those on the streets.

In 2007 John Mellencamp visited Tent City and invited all of the unhoused people to his concert that evening. From the stage Mellencamp talked to his invited friends. After the show, one person approached Ken Leslie and said, “He spoke to me from the stage, I guess I really do matter.”

At that moment, Ken was inspired yet again and formed 1matters.org, a non-profit organization that funds not only Tent City but several other projects which help the unhoused, including Toledo Streets and Veterans Matter.

Helping Them Find Autonomy through Toledo Streets

Being homeless in the 1980’s, Ken Leslie knows that the path to domestic autonomy is through financial autonomy. Toledo Streets is a paper with that mission, to give people without an income the possibility to sell papers for a cash profit by eliminating pan handling and replacing it with a self-driven enterprise and job skill development.

When a vendor signs-up they are given 10 papers that will be sold for $1.00 each. Once these papers are sold, the vendor can use the cash to purchase more papers for $0.25 each. Each vendor gets to keep the $0.75 as their profit while at the same time learning how to form relationships with their selling-area clientele. Additionally, selling the paper allows vendors to list current employment on their resume, which improves their chances of further domestic autonomy by landing a more traditional job.

    Veterans Matter-

Veterans Matter has one simple mission, house as many homeless veterans and veteran families as possible. Two years ago Ken had a discussion with Shawn Dowling with the VA, who told him that the only thing that was keeping many from housing was the deposit, and Veterans Matter was born to provide those deposits directly to the landlord.  A call to Barb Petee with Promedica netted the startup funds in 7 days, and three days later the first veterans were housed.  11 days from inspiration to execution.

Today Veterans Matter has housed over 400 veterans and their families in six states, and gotten the support of Katy, Dusty Hill of ZZ Top, Ice-T, John Mellencamp, Kid Rock Heart, Darius Rucker, and many more.  Ken understands that this is only the beginning of this project and that there are still nearly 57,000 more veterans that need housed.

100% of the proceeds from the 1Mile Matters Walk here in Toledo on October 24th will go to help house even more unhoused veterans. To be a sponsor for the walk or join the movement visit 1Matters.org.

  9. One of Dr. Frankel’s missions is educate his patients that a healthy mouth promotes a healthy body. Research suggests that there is a strong relationship between gum disease and such problems as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. “For the nearly 30 million Americans who have diabetes, many may be surprised to learn about the unexpected complications associated with this condition,” including an increased prevalence “of gum disease among those with diabetes” (American Diabetes Association). In order to ensure that all patients are aware of these problems, Frankel Dentistry provides expert patient education, which creates awareness of small problems before they become bigger, more complicated issues.

But one Frankel patient has taken diabetes education to a new avenue. Jimmy Hicks has teamed together with Flower Hospital and the Greater Toledo YMCAs to educate local Toledoans about diabetes for FREE!

Classes run 1 hour a week for 8 weeks. During this time volunteer physicians, certified diabetes educators, motivational speakers, dietitians, and more help educate attendees learn to control their blood sugar and regulate their diabetes.

According to Jimmy, ” Diabetes is a huge problem in our community. With proper education people can control their blood sugar.” However, what Jimmy noticed is that many people don’t have the time or the money to get the proper education. That is what inspired to do something. Thus the creation of a problem that is free and not a big commitment while still allowing the proper education to be spread.

Every 8 weeks the program restarts at a different YMCA. Recently, an 8 week class finished at the JCC. On Tuesday, September 2nd, the next session will begin at the South YMCA at the Morse Center. Following that session, the program will move to the Oregon YMCA.

A typical class has 12-15 participants, who are all excited to learn how to manage their diabetes. Additionally, Jimmy wanted to be sure that people understood that nothing is being sold to the participants. ” This program simply gives people the recipe of success,” said Jimmy.

There is one added bonus. Participants who complete 6 out of the 8 classes receive a 3 month MAX membership to the YMCA, which can be used at any YMCA in the country.

In order to register for the Free Diabetes Classes that begin September 2nd at the South YMCA at the Morse Center, please obtain a physicians referral and call Susan Ruff at 419-725-7844.

“Managing your diabetes and taking it seriously are keys to success,” said Jimmy. Additionally, don’t forget that the relationship between serious gum disease and diabetes is a two-way street. “Not only are people with diabetes more susceptible to gum disease, but serious gum disease may have the potential to affect blood glucose control and contribute to the progression of diabetes” (American Diabetes Association). Be educated. Be aware.

Senior Lourdes University volleyball player and Springfield native, Keyonna Gregory, was recently selected to participate in the Team AIST America- Dominican Republic Tour  in June of 2015. This tour will be made up of elite collegiate athletes that coaches specially invite to represent the USA and compete internationally.

Keyonna originally began her athletic career as a basketball player, but during her sophomore year of high school decided to give volleyball a try and has never looked back. “I just love the game so much and I can’t wait to see where my future takes me,” she said. This past season, Keyonna was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region Team as well as First-Team All-Conference.

Growing up in Northwest Ohio, Keyonna loves being close to home and her family, but she is looking forward to spreading her wings. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I am so excited,” she said.

Keyonna was quick to tell us that she will be home a few times a year and plans to visit Dr. Frankel for her routine cleanings and exams. “Dr. Frankel has been the only dentist I have ever known,” she said. “I trust him with my teeth and smile. He really is the best.”

We would like to wish Keyonna and the entire Lourdes University Volleyball team the best of luck as they prepare for their upcoming season. Go Gray Wolves!

If you would like to make a small donation to Keyonna as she prepares to take her skills to the next level and represent USA, please contact our Toledo office and we will give you further details. On behalf of Keyonna, “Thank You in advance.”
