  1. May is Family Wellness Month AND Mental Health Month.

Your physical health is just as important as your mental health! This month we are sharing healthy habits to encourage a healthier lifestyle for you and your family!

    1. Get outside! A little summer sunshine can go a long way. Chances are you’ve spent the winter tucked away and Vitamin D deprived. Take a family walk or bike ride in the evening, visit a new park or trail, walk the dog daily, and be sure to take in the sunshine and fresh air.

    1. Try a healthy new recipe. Pick a night to cook a healthy meal with your family. This is a great way to spend quality time together while still being productive. This is also an opportunity to teach children the importance of a balanced diet and trying new foods.
    1. Practice mindfulness. This is an opportunity to help your children understand the importance of mental health. Simply reflect on the day you’ve had or situations which have left your little ones with certain emotions. Help them discover “why” they feel the emotions they do. Also, try a five minute meditation or positive affirmations. Encourage your children to highlight their favorite things about themselves to promote self esteem!
    1. Find a self care routine. Help your loved ones find a way they love to care for themselves, this could be taking time for a skin care routine, workout routine, an oral care routine, or nighttime cooldown routine. This is time for you all to relax yet still be productive towards your health.
Oral care is self care. Three different forms of self care that can help you take care of your mind and body.

    1. Practice oral health! A healthy mouth promotes a healthy body. Teaching your kids healthy oral habits at a young age can help ensure a beautiful, life lasting smile. Brush, floss, rinse, visit Dr. Frankel and repeat!
    2. Connect with one another. Good relationships are important for your mental wellbeing. It never hurts to remind your family how much they mean to you and the impact they’ve made on your life.

  2. It is National Children’s Dental Health Month. https://www.aapd.org/about/about-aapd/news-room/latest-news/a-national-childrens-dental-health-month-letter-from-aapd-president-dr.-donly/

The doctors, healthcare providers, and staff at Frankel Dentistry celebrate parents who bring in their children as soon as the first tooth pops through and continue every six months.

Children coming in early for dental visits enjoy improved dental health. We make it fun at Frankel Dentistry. For a quick child’s eye-view check this video of our office. You will be in good company. It has over nine million views!

Kids love visiting our office because we make it fun. Parents can make dental home care fun by letting children select their toothbrushes, teaching them to brush, and brushing with them. There are several toothbrushing songs/videos to keep children brushing for a full two minutes.

Another great way to motivate your young tooth brusher is charting daily brushing. The folks at Frankel Dentistry created a chart for you to print out.

Remember, it takes 90 days to develop a new habit.

  3. Being located only a mile South from the state line and beautiful Michigan farm lands, Frankel Dentistry is no stranger to farmers and their families. However, this chilly December afternoon, we had a visitor we’ve never seen before.

It was a calm day in the office just like any other. Our front desk receptionist welcomed patients as something odd caught her eye. “Maybe, I’m just seeing things” she thought to herself, when once again a red flash dashed across the glass office door.

A comedy ensued. The patient had no idea her rooster had hijacked a ride with her to Frankel Dentistry. Once alerted, an event mirroring the keystone cops of yesteryear began. The escapee rooster’s owner, Dr. Greiss, Madison, and Megan were zigzagging across the parking lot. The clever bird had the edge for longer than one might hope. Eventually cornered and corralled, the rooster was defeated but safe. The now seasoned dentist, hygienist, assistant, and patient returned to changing lives a smile at a time through dentistry.

Frankel Dentistry has offered the best dental experience for 75 years. It is easy to see why they have been awarded the Best of Toledo Dental by the readers of City Paper for 11 years. They are more than dental professionals. They are family, friends, and when needed farmers.

  4. Gratitude Always. It has been quite a year for Frankel Dentistry. We have watched our spirits, team, and leadership grow immensely. With gratitude being one of our Core Values, we find it even more imperative to express gratitude for the big and small during this season.

One thing we can always be thankful for is our team.

Not only do we have the best patients, but the best team.

So to all of our Frankel Dentistry teams -thank you, we are grateful for each and everyone of you.💙  Happy Thanksgiving!🦃

  5. Dental floss, you know what it is, but do you use it?

Don’t tell Mom. I can’t find the floss.

Flossing is the most effective way to remove bacteria plaque and food from in between your teeth. Technique is as important as frequency. Here’s what we know.

-Floss your teeth as least once every 24 hours.

-Do not see-saw back and forth against the gums.

-Pull the floss tight against the tooth.

-Gently slide the floss up and down the length of the tooth.

    Flossing Mama

The patients at Frankel Dentistry have shared a few valuable hints regarding their use of dental floss.

-Find a floss you like. Some of our favorites are Cocofloss, Dr. Tung’s, Glide and Expanding or stretchy floss.

-Use a mirror. Several patients prefer magnified cosmetic mirrors.

    -Make it a habit.

    -Enjoy a healthier smile.

  6. Global Hug Your Kids Day

The third Monday in July is Global Hug your Kid Day. Toledo, Ohio dental practice Frankel Dentistry is all about kids. The doctors, healthcare providers, and staff may not be hugging their young patients, but they do applaud parents who bring in their children for regular dental exams and cleanings.

    July 17, 2020

“Children supported by their parents in visiting the dentist inherit a lifetime of dental health”, states dental hygienist, Brittney Gates. “We are seeing more and more children who simply love the dentist”, shares owner/dentist  Dr. Jon Frankel. When asked why, the same answers echoed throughout the office.

    I love the dentist!

COVID-19 did not close this dental practice. They remained open to serve those in dental pain, many having been referred by urgent care centers and Emergency Rooms. Following the CDC guidelines and adapting to a new normal was immediate. Systems were designed and implemented. This is a dental practice that thinks like a family.

Wondering what insights these thoughtful folks might have, we inquired, “What is a helpful hint for families during the pandemic”?  We were not surprised to find the answers were quick and useful.

    Brush, Floss, Clean and DANCE!
  8. Years back, television sit-coms reflected Pops as sole bread winners. They wore suits and ties. You never saw them cooking in the kitchen or cleaning house. They might don an apron when helping with the dishes after a special meal like Thanksgiving dinner. Dads only did Dad-things like read the paper and carve the roast. Things have changed.

Today’s fathers cook, clean, babysit, change diapers, and grocery shop. They nearly do it all! There is one thing they avoid. According to the call center at Frankel Dentistry, oddly enough, Dads do not schedule dental appointments. The dental appointment scheduling specialists in this mid-western office report wives, girlfriends and mothers seem to be in charge of dental health. It is curious but let’s keep our fathers healthy. Call and make them a dental appointment!

Father’s Day is around the corner. We can keep our “more valuable than ever” Dads healthier by getting them back to the dentist. Dental health promotes overall health. It is especially important during this challenging time to optimize health.

Teeth whitening, teeth straightening, or other elective procedures might sweeten the pot for Pop on his big day. If you have a Dad in need of a dentist. Make him smile. Call a dentist and schedule an appointment for him.

Frankel Dentistry has been voted Best Dentist by the readers of Toledo City Paper for the last 10 years. For a preview of what to expect. Check out the video of long time employee Kenyetta below.

  9. Everyone knows the importance of starting the school year off right.
Picking out the right backpack, getting all the school supplies, and selecting the right lunch box is already on your children back to school list, but what about a back to school smile? Scheduling a trip to the dentist should be on every parent’s summer to-do list. This will not only help your child get the best and healthiest smile but a trip to the dentist office also acts as a reminder of how important oral health is. Taking proper care of your teeth can be hard for children but educating them from an early age will help them ace their oral exam. Here are some tips on how you can help your children’s smile be the best it can be.

Regular Dentist Trips – Maintaining regular dentist visits is important for many reasons. Dental hygienists will keep their mouth healthy and happy. Your dentist will be able to catch or prevent early signs of trouble. They will look for any signs of mouth, head, or neck cancer. Dentists will also be able to give you the best advice for your kid’s specific needs.

Pack the Right Snack – Parents know the importance of a healthy snack choice for their children but educating them on their diet is also important. When it comes time to pack a school lunch, try giving them a swing at it. Letting your kids pack their own lunch can be very rewarding to them. Giving them healthy options to pick from will give your kids a better understanding of what a healthy snack should look like. Avoid any sugary items that could harm their teeth.

Make Brushing Fun! – Brushing your teeth twice a day is very important. Kids should be brushing their teeth every morning and night for at least two minutes. Play a song while your children brush. That way you know they are reaching that two-minute target. Let your kids pick out their tooth care products. Picking their favorite color and favorite flavor can get them excited about brushing their teeth.

  10. Children study their parents, grandparents and siblings. They often “try on” the behaviors and mannerisms of those they love. Attitudes about the dentist are no exception.

Parents watch what you say. You may be causing dental anxiety in your children. Frequently when a parent is “afraid” of the dentist that fear is passed on to the child.

By setting a strong example for your children and teaching them proper oral hygiene, you may eliminate dental anxiety in your children. It is also important to make sure that your dentist is right for your family. Frankel Dentistry is truly “kid-friendly”. Many young patients tell ask their parents when CAN they go to the dentist next.

Neat, clean place. Friendly and polite associates. Brittany did a great job and did everything she could to make my shy son feel comfortable. Dr Hill made sure I understood everything and gave me time to ask questions. The gentlemen that returned my call, I believe his name was Zach helped me get our appointment pushed back from 8:20 am to 10:00 am, so that I was able to sleep in a little longer on my day off. I have 5 kids, work a full time job and part time job so I greatly appreciated that flexibility. Great job team!! Keep up the good work. No complaints at all. LS

Great experience. My kids don’t dread going to the dentist with such a friendly staff and TVs to distract them. LR

Call Frankel Dentistry today and schedule a complimentary consultation. Welcome to your new dental family.
