  1. Jonathan Frankel, DDS

Since 1946 Frankel Dentistry has served the Toledo area through dentistry. Dr. Jonathan Frankel has always enjoyed the family celebration of Thanksgiving. He shared with his staff and fellow dentists at Frankel Dentistry his gratitude and desire to give thanks by providing free dental care for those in need. It was unanimous. They were all in. Every year since, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, patients in need are seen on a first come first seen basis. The dentistry is free. The happiness is contagious.

Local businesses Tim Horton’s and Cafe Donuts both on Monroe Street in Toledo donate hot coffee and donuts for those who wait outside from as early as 3 a.m. to be seen. The patients are grateful. Fortunately, there are plenty of toothbrushes for those who wish to “freshen-up” before being seen.

Frankel Dentistry has two locations. One is in Maumee. Dentists, dental professionals and staff from both locations gather at the Toledo, Ohio location for the Thanksgiving free dentistry event. The passion at Frankel Dentistry is Changing Lives a Smile at a Time. It is certainly evident as the patients (often previously in pain) leave the event smiling.

The Frankel Dentistry core values shine thorough. Always Better, Serve All and Gratitude exemplify this Thanksgiving Free Dental day and everyday at this unique dental practice.

  1. CASH FOR CANDY

    Ohio Dentist makes Halloween Sweet

TOLEDO, OHIO – Why do vampires brush and floss their teeth so often? So they don’t have bat breath.

We all know that children may receive money from the tooth fairy, but did you know that children can trade in their Halloween candy for cash? Frankel Dentistry is pleased to be offering their annual Halloween Candy buyback to the Toledo community. Trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Frankel Dentistry’s Talmadge Road and Keystone Drive locations and receive $1.00 per pound.

Candy, candy everywhere, what’s a parent to do? Halloween is a fun holiday for children to dress up in costumes and participate in trick-or-treating, but sometimes they return with more candy than their own good! Frankel Dentistry wants to remind children that too much sugar can lead to cavities and unhealthy habits. Candy, as well as hurting children’s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain.  “Visiting your Dentist twice a year and brushing daily are preventative measures, but doing away with excess sweets all together will really give your teeth a healthy boost,” says Dr. Frankel.

Children may bring their leftover, wrapped Halloween candy to Dr. Frankel for $1.00 per pound. Dr. Frankel donates the treats to a local group of Military Parents to be sent to Toledo troops who are serving overseas. Last year, Frankel Dentistry was able to donate over a ton of candy to our troops – let’s try to increase that amount this year!

Stop by either location on the day after Halloween on Thursday, November 1st   through Tuesday, November 6th for candy collection. Check their website, www.jonfrankeldentistry.com for business hours.

Frankel Dentistry has been serving the Toledo community since 1946 with an always better philosophy. Noted for Changing Lives a Smile at a Time, they have been voted Best of Toledo for eight consecutive years by Toledo City Paper Readers.  Frankel Dentistry is currently accepting new patients at both the Toledo, 5012 Talmadge Road and Maumee, 4359 Keystone Drive, locations. For more information or to schedule a free office tour call 419-474-9611 Toledo, 493-893-0221 Maumee or on-line at www.jonfrankeldentistry.com.

  1. Bright, healthy smiles bring more than just compliments. Toledo dentist Jon Frankel has found that patients who whiten their teeth seem to keep up with their home care and regularly scheduled recare visits! Frankel Dentistry has served the Toledo community since 1946 with an “always better” approach. Dental Hygienist, Brittney Parran has noticed how patients are motivated by teeth whitening. “I love seeing my patients’ dental health improve especially since a healthy mouth promotes overall health. Our teeth whitening options help patients see results and keep up with their dental care. I am grateful to be able to serve the community through dentistry in a totally patient focused environment”, she shares, “Teeth whitening brings more than just whiter teeth”.

    uPhoria 4 Minute Teeth Whitening

Frankel Dentistry recently added uPhoria teeth whitening to their armamentarium. Patients have found adding this procedure to their 3 or 6 month check-up visits gives them a special boost. Many are simply including it with their cleanings on a regular basis. It takes an additional 20 minutes when set-up time is included. Sono-chemistry makes this option unique. The force of ultra-sonic waves combined with whitening gel make this a quick solution to a bright smile.

Many patients like the independence to whiten their teeth at home. All new patients at Frankel Dentistry receive an Opalescence teeth whitening kit. The ready-made trays adapt instantly and comfortably.

Patients who would like to whiten for life opt for custom-made whitening trays. These individualized trays are custom fitted from models made from impressions taken in the office. Whitening for Life patients come every three to six months for cleaning appointments and receive a tube of gel!

Time management can be a challenge. When Frankel Dentistry patients have a big event such as a job interview or wedding and want to bolster their smile in the last minute, ZOOM whitening comes to the rescue. Phillips ZOOM in office whitening takes about 1 1/2 hours. The cool power of a LED light activates the whitening gel. Results range from 4 to 8 shades. It is the quick fix for a whiter smile.

Even the darkest stained teeth can be whitening with KOR. The combination of in office whitening  and the extensive at home process have brought smiles to dozens of patients.  The exclusive at home whitening system must be worn for 6 to 12 weeks. Bi weekly checks are schedule to evaluate when to whiten in office. The at home trays must be worn an additional four weeks after the final in office procedure is completed. Periodic maintenance is necessary for permanent results.

  1. September is a busy month. Children are back in school with homework, sports and extracurricular activities. Tired parents, grandparents and caregivers often want to grab something quick to eat. Whether home or on the run, what is the healthiest approach to eating when stressed?

Feeling the Stress? What to Avoid!
Everyone can feel some type of stress now and then. For some people, reaching for comfort food may help to provide relief – but is it really beneficial to your health?
Studies have shown that foods high in sugar (donuts, ice cream, pastries) may provide an immediate high, but are often leave you tired and hungry. This also applies to highly processed foods (processed foods or fried foods). Foods high in salt (chips, fried foods) can leave you feeling dehydrated and bloated.
What to eat instead? Try these options:
    – Craving something salty? Try avocado toast
    – Need a sweet fix? Opt for dark chocolate or dark chocolate covered almonds
    – Try to pack a snack or meal vs. running to a drive-through
Not only does a healthy diet benefit your overall health, but your teeth will thank you for it as well! Make a new habit to reach for nutritious snacks and meals – you will feel better and less stressed.

  1. Back to School Smiles

The start of a new school year can also signal a fresh start. It’s important to teach children the importance of their health and teach them healthy habits. Start the school year with a smile!
Here are a few tips for getting your child ready for back to school:

Ready for the First Day of School!

    1) Does your child need dental health forms completed for their school record? It’s important to have their annual exam and cleanings, but also to make sure their health is up to date with their school.

    Tools for a Healthy Smile

    2) New toothbrush = new start to school. In addition to new pencils and notebooks, don’t forget the oral health aisle.

    Strong Smiles Need Guards

    3) Does your child need a sport guard (or get fitted for a new sport guard) for their upcoming fall sport?

    Healthy Snacks are Colorful

    4) Stock up on healthy snacks and lunch items to pack in your child’s lunchbox. Instead of potato chips, stock up on dried fruit and veggies which can easily be stored.

  1. Your oral health care needs change as you get older. When children become teenagers, they face different issues than when they were younger. By the teenage years, a teen has lost all of his/her “baby” teeth and the adult teeth have made their stay.

In addition to going through puberty, teens also face some oral health changes:

    1) Braces – everyone wants a smile that is full of straight teeth. Braces may be a good option for teens to explore.

    2) Bothersome wisdom teeth – these teeth or “third molars” can be an issue as teens get older. They may cause pain and need to be removed.

    3) Bad Breath – changes in your oral health routine may make a difference – including brushing with an electric toothbrush, flossing daily and adding a mouth wash. Tonsils made need to be checked as well.

The best advice you can give your teen is to adhere to a strong oral health routine and to make sure they attend their regular cleanings. Teenage years are one to smile and laugh a lot, so teens should never feel embarrassed or ashamed of their teeth. Our office is here to discuss all of your options, so you can be proud of your smile.
